Tahoe Hurts

August 27th, 2005

This summer has been a fast and wild one. Work at Trumba is fantastic but has also been taking quite a bit of time. In addition the standard preparations for Burning Man took a good chunk out of summer. Plus there was STP training which ate up most my time through mid-July.

So now Megan and I are on a *working* vacation at Lake Tahoe. We rented a nice condo near the lake just outside of Tahoe City. This place is beautiful, touristy and a great spot to come visit. Lots of nice beaches, great bike riding (72 around the lake) and lots of great places to eat, both high and low end. We had a fab dinner at Sunnyside Resort, I highly recommend the waterfront dining. Just make sure to sit near a heat lamp at night, the temps are dropping into the 40s even in summer.

We’re up at 6000 feet so altitude is noticeable. We took a quick bike ride to the Rubicon Deli for sandwiches and I almost passed out from intense lung burning after I sprinted the last 1/4 mile. Take it easy here. I also found out that the sun here is extremely intense. With less atmosphere between you and the sun it’s possible to get a nice little burn. We took a 2.5 hour float down the Truckee river on inner-tubes with Jeff, an old college friend of Megan who lives in Truckee. If you do anything Tahoe do this, just wear tons of sun screen. I put on two applications and still got a nice burn on my torso.

Today we go to a wedding, tonight Megan’s parents arrive from East Bay and tomorrow I head off to Burning Man. Back to Seattle September 5th. See y’all then.
